• The Fir Tree and the Bramble

Pride brings danger

Once upon a time, in a large forest, there stood a tall and strong Fir Tree. At its base grew a small, humble plant called the Bramble. The Fir Tree often looked down on the Bramble, thinking it was far more important.

One day, the Fir Tree spoke harshly. “You’re not as useful as I am,” it said. “People use my wood to build their homes. Everyone wants me. But no one even notices you.”

The Bramble, with its tiny, rustling leaves, stayed quiet for a moment. Then it replied in a calm voice.

“You may be tall and strong,” said the Bramble, “but have you ever thought about the tools people use? They bring axes and saws to cut down big trees like you. Plants like me are too small to bother with. They leave me alone.”

The Fir Tree suddenly felt uneasy. It had never thought about being cut down. It had always taken pride in its height and strength.
