Honesty outweighs deceitful flattery
On a bright and cheerful day, a hungry wolf wandered onto a sprawling farm. As he roamed the land, he stumbled upon a vast field of golden oats, swaying gently in the breeze. However, being a carnivore, he had no interest in the grain and continued on his way, sniffing the air in search of something more suitable to his taste.
As he
trotted further, he encountered a strong and elegant horse emerging from the
field. Seizing an opportunity to make an impression, the wolf, in a voice
brimming with false generosity, called out to the horse.
"My
dear friend," he said smoothly, "I have just discovered a marvelous
feast of the finest oats. They remain untouched, for I thought only of you. The
mere thought of hearing you enjoy such a delightful meal brings joy to my
heart."
The
horse, wise and discerning, let out a soft chuckle and fixed the wolf with a
knowing gaze.
"How
kind of you," he said, amusement dancing in his eyes. "Yet, I cannot
help but wonder—if wolves had any taste for oats, would you still have left this
so-called feast just to enjoy the sound of my munching?"
The wolf felt his face grow warm with embarrassment. He had hoped to flatter and deceive, but his ploy had failed. At that moment, he realized that honesty and sincerity were far better paths to friendship than deceitful words and empty flattery. With a sheepish nod, he slunk away, pondering the wisdom in the horse’s words.
