Small acts can change lives
Once, in a busy city, there lived a beggar. He stayed near a railway station. Every day, he asked people on the train for money. Some gave him coins. Most ignored him.
One day,
he saw a tall man in neat clothes. The beggar thought, “This man looks rich.
Maybe he will help me.” So, he walked up and asked for money.
The tall
man looked at him and said, “You always ask others for help. But have you ever
helped anyone?”
The
beggar replied, “Sir, I am just a beggar. I have nothing. How can I give?”
The man
replied, “If you cannot give, you should not expect to receive. I am a
businessman. I believe in both giving and receiving.”
Then, the
man boarded the train and left.
The
beggar sat alone and thought about what the man said. His words stayed in his
mind. “Why do I get so little?” he asked himself. “Is it because I
never gave anything?”
For two
days, he kept thinking. Then, on the third day, something caught his eye.
Nearby, some flowers were blooming. They were bright and beautiful. An idea
came to him.
“I can
give flowers! If someone helps me, I’ll give them a flower.”
That day,
the beggar picked a few flowers. He gave them to the people who gave him money.
People were surprised. They smiled and happily accepted the flowers. They gave
him more money than usual.
This made
the beggar feel good. He kept doing it every day. He woke up early, picked
flowers, and offered them as a thank-you. Slowly, more people noticed him. They
liked the gesture and gave him more money.
He
realized something important—people don’t just give for nothing. They give when
they feel appreciated.
One day,
the tall man returned to the station. The beggar ran to him. This time, he was
excited.
He said,
“Sir, I have something to offer today. If you give me money, I will give you
flowers.”
The man
smiled and gave him some money. He took the flowers and said, “Wonderful. Now
you’re a businessman—just like me!”
The
beggar was filled with joy. The man’s words opened his eyes. He shouted, “I am
not a beggar anymore! I am a businessman!”
Some
people laughed at him. But he did not care. He believed in himself now.
Half a
year passed. At the same railway station, two well-dressed men stood waiting.
One man looked familiar to the other.
The first
man smiled and said, “Do you remember me?”
The
second man said, “No, I don’t think so.”
The first
man replied, “I am the beggar you once spoke to. You told me that giving is as
important as receiving.”
The
second man was shocked. “You were that beggar? But now you look rich!”
The first
man laughed. “Yes, I was that beggar. But your words changed my life. I started
offering flowers in return for money. Slowly, I saved up and bought more
flowers. I became a flower seller. Today, I own a flower business. I travel
from city to city to sell my products.”
He added,
“I learned that I was never just a beggar. I was always a businessman. I just
needed to see it that way.”
This
story teaches a deep lesson. True change starts with how we see ourselves. The
beggar changed his life not by luck, but by changing his thinking.
He
stopped asking and started giving. People responded with kindness. His small
act of offering flowers grew into a big business.
We must
remember: if we only focus on what we lack, we stay stuck. But if we look for
what we can give, even the smallest act can open the door to a better future.
No dream
is too big. No person is too small. Belief, kindness, and action can turn a
poor man into a rich one.
All it
takes is a different way of thinking.
