Treasure
Once upon a time, there was a king named Devashakti. He was very worried about his son, the prince, who was very thin and weak. The prince’s health seemed to get worse every day.
The king called the best doctors from faraway lands,
but no one could help his son. The problem was a snake that lived inside the
prince’s stomach. The doctors tried everything, but nothing worked.
Seeing his father so sad, the prince decided to
quietly leave the castle one night. He traveled to another kingdom and lived in
a temple. Kind people there gave him food every day.
In this new kingdom, there was a ruler with two smart
daughters. Each morning, they would greet their father with respect and ask for
his blessing.
One daughter said, "Dear father, we are so lucky
to have you. You bring us all the happiness in the world." But the other
daughter said, "Father, it’s true that we only get rewards for what we do
ourselves."
The second daughter’s words made the king angry. He
told his advisors to find someone for her to marry. "She should learn the
results of her actions!" he said.
The advisors found the prince living in the temple and
arranged for him to marry the princess. She was kind and loving, and she
treated her husband with respect. The couple was happy with their new life and
decided to explore other parts of the kingdom.
One day, while traveling, the prince got tired and
rested under a tree. The princess went to a nearby market to buy some food.
When she returned, she saw a snake coming out of a nearby anthill and another
snake leaving her sleeping husband’s mouth.
The princess overheard the snakes talking. The snake
from the anthill asked, "Why do you keep making this handsome prince sick?
You know if he drinks a soup made of cumin seeds and mustard, you won’t
survive!" The other snake replied, "And why do you guard two pots of
gold that you don’t need? If someone pours hot water and oil over your anthill,
you won’t survive either!"
After the snakes left, the princess quickly made a
soup with cumin seeds and mustard for her husband. Soon, he started feeling
better and stronger. They then poured hot water and oil over the anthill and
found two pots of gold the snake had hidden.
With the prince’s health restored and the two pots of
gold, the prince and princess lived happily ever after.
