• The Trees and the Axe

"Beware of misplaced trust."

Long ago, in a sprawling forest filled with towering trees, a man wandered in with a humble request. Carrying only an iron axe head, he approached the trees and asked for their assistance. He explained that he needed a sturdy piece of wood to craft a handle for his axe.

The man’s tone was gentle, and his demeanor seemed sincere as he assured the trees that his intentions were harmless. He claimed that he merely needed the axe to remove a single tree obstructing his path through the forest.

The trees, wary at first, hesitated. They whispered among themselves, unsure if they should grant the man’s request. After some deliberation, they decided that one small sacrifice would not harm the forest as a whole. To help the man, they offered him a young ash sapling, hoping it would suffice for his needs.

With gratitude, the man took the sapling and fashioned it into a handle. But once his axe was complete, his true intentions became clear. Instead of limiting himself to the one tree he had promised to cut, he began to swing his axe relentlessly. Tree after tree fell to the ground as the man carved through the forest, leaving devastation in his wake.

The trees watched in horror as they realized the enormity of their mistake. By trusting the man and granting him the sapling, they had unknowingly armed their own destroyer. The once-vibrant forest grew silent as tree after tree fell, and the survivors mourned their lost companions. They regretted their decision bitterly, but it was too late to undo the damage.

In their sorrow, the remaining trees learned a harsh lesson about misplaced trust. Sometimes, the smallest acts of generosity can lead to the gravest consequences when placed in the wrong hands.
