• The Wasps, Partridges, and the Farmer

Loyalty over convenience.

Once upon a time, in a distant village, there lived a diligent Farmer who owned a large, bustling farm. His farm was primarily managed by his strong and hardworking Oxen, who tirelessly plowed the fields, hauled heavy loads, and helped grow bountiful crops. The Oxen were loyal and never complained, which made the Farmer trust and rely on them immensely.

One sweltering summer afternoon, when the heat seemed almost unbearable, a group of Wasps and a flock of Partridges arrived at the Farmer's doorstep, panting and parched. Desperate for a drink, they humbly approached the Farmer.

"Good day, kind Farmer," they greeted. "We are very thirsty. Could we have some water from your pond to quench our thirst? We would gladly offer our help around your farm in return."

The Farmer looked at them curiously, intrigued by their proposal. The Wasps were the first to speak up. "If you let us drink from your pond, we can patrol your vineyard and guard it from intruders. Any thief who tries to steal your grapes will get a sting from us!" they buzzed confidently.

Next, the Partridges offered their help. "We are skilled at scratching and pecking at the ground. If you allow us to drink from your pond, we can aerate the soil around your vines. This will help your grapevines grow healthier and produce more grapes."

The Farmer pondered their offers and glanced over at his Oxen, who were working tirelessly in the fields under the scorching sun. These Oxen had been his dependable workers, never asking for anything other than the occasional feed and water to keep going. Their strong, steady effort kept the farm running smoothly without the need for extra help.

After a moment, the Farmer responded with gratitude and a gentle smile. "I appreciate your generous offers," he said to the Wasps and Partridges. "However, my Oxen already handle all the labor here. They plow the fields, pull the heavy carts, and keep my farm thriving. They never ask for more than a little food and water, and they continue to work hard every day. So, I must reserve the pond’s water for them, as they have earned it through their constant efforts."

The Wasps and Partridges understood the Farmer’s decision, respecting the loyalty and dedication he showed toward his Oxen. With a nod of understanding, they left in search of water elsewhere.

As the day went on, the Farmer’s Oxen continued their work, grateful for their Farmer’s care and appreciation. They knew they were valued, and that simple acknowledgment made them feel even more committed to their labor. The Farmer’s farm flourished, thanks to the steadfast partnership between him and his faithful Oxen, who always gave their best in return for his kindness.
