"The Enchanted Rose: Beauty's Tale"
Once upon a time, there was a wealthy merchant with three daughters. He ensured they received the best education money could buy. The eldest two daughters, however, paid little attention to their studies, while the youngest, named Beauty, loved to read and study, much to the envy of her sisters.
The elder daughters were prideful
and only socialized with the elite, constantly attending parties and events.
They mocked Beauty for her love of books. One day, the merchant received
devastating news: his ship, carrying valuable goods, was lost at sea, resulting
in the loss of his entire fortune. Forced into poverty, the family moved to a
small country house where they had to work for their living. The older
daughters believed they would still find wealthy husbands, but they were
abandoned by their suitors and ridiculed for their pride. Only Beauty was
pitied for her sweet and kind nature.
In the countryside, Beauty woke early,
did household chores, and read in her spare time. Her sisters, however, were
idle and complained about their lost lifestyle. After a year, the merchant
learned that his lost ship had arrived at port. He set off to claim it,
promising his daughters gifts: a necklace and a golden chain for the elder two,
and a rose for Beauty.
At the port, the merchant faced
many challenges and returned home empty-handed, except for the expensive gifts
for his elder daughters. Lost and caught in a storm on his way back, he found
refuge in a mysterious, luxurious palace. After spending the night and enjoying
the hospitality of unseen hosts, he picked a rose from the garden for Beauty.
Immediately, a terrifying Beast appeared, accusing him of theft and demanding
his life in exchange.
The merchant pleaded for mercy,
explaining the rose was for his daughter. The Beast agreed to spare his life on
the condition that one of his daughters would willingly come to live with the
Beast. The merchant reluctantly agreed and returned home, sharing his ordeal
with his daughters. Beauty, feeling responsible, insisted on going to the
Beast's palace.
At the palace, Beauty was treated
with great kindness and lived a life of luxury, though she missed her family.
The Beast, despite his fearsome appearance, was gentle and considerate. They
spent time together, and Beauty gradually lost her fear of him. Each night, the
Beast asked her to marry him, and each night she refused, but their friendship
grew.
One day, Beauty asked to visit
her family. The Beast allowed her to go for a week, giving her a magic mirror
and ring to return. Her sisters, jealous of her happiness, convinced her to
stay longer, hoping the Beast would harm her. Beauty, feeling guilty, returned
to the palace and found the Beast near death from sorrow. She realized she
loved him and promised to marry him.
Upon her declaration of love, the
Beast transformed into a handsome prince. He explained that he had been cursed,
and only genuine love could break the spell. Beauty and the prince were
married, and her family joined them in the palace, living happily ever after.
