Barley and a Jewel
On a quiet farm, there lived a rooster. He worked hard every day, scratching and digging the ground to find food for his family.
One sunny day, while the rooster
was busy scratching and digging, his foot hit something hard. He looked down
and saw something shiny buried in the dirt. With a strong flap of his wings, he
cleared away the soil and found a sparkling jewel.
The rooster tilted his head and looked
at the gem. It was a beautiful, shiny thing, glittering under the sunlight. He
thought that someone must have lost it and would be very happy to get it back.
"Aha," the rooster said
as he stared at the jewel. He knew that such a precious thing could be sold for
a lot of money. The person who lost it would probably give anything to have it
back. But, even though it was beautiful and valuable, the jewel was of no use
to him.
The rooster looked at the jewel one last time before going back to his work. Even if the jewel was worth a lot of money, to him, a single grain of barley was more valuable. That was the food his family needed to survive. So, the rooster left the shiny jewel behind and continued scratching and digging the ground.
