Once upon a time, in a beautiful green meadow, there lived a Peacock. He was a stunning bird with bright, colorful feathers that everyone admired. But even though he was very beautiful, the Peacock was not happy.
One day, he looked at his
reflection in a clear stream and smiled at how good he looked. But when he
heard his own voice, he became sad. The Peacock couldn’t sing as sweetly as the
other birds. His voice was rough and unpleasant, unlike the lovely songs of the
nightingale or the cheerful whistles of the lark.
This made him feel sad because he
thought that if he was the most beautiful bird, he should also have the best
voice. Feeling upset, he decided to ask Juno, the queen of the gods, for help.
The Peacock flew up to the
heavens and stood before Juno. He said, "Dear queen, I am the most
beautiful bird, but I don’t have a beautiful voice. Could you please give me a
lovely song to go with my lovely feathers?"
Juno listened to him and then
shook her head. She said, "Every creature has its own special gifts. You
have been given beautiful feathers that no other bird has. But you can’t have
everything."
The Peacock realized that while he had the most beautiful feathers, he couldn’t have the best voice too. He returned to his meadow, understanding that he couldn’t have everything he wanted.
